A small country called Luxembourg

Luxembourg, a country the size of Cape Town, is one of those tiny places that many can't even pinpoint on a map. Yet it has played a big role in world history and is a beautiful place to visit.

This country lies right on the borders with France, Belgium and Germany, making it base for travelling to other major European cities.

The capital Luxembourg City has old world architecture as well as modern skyscrapers. Underground there are also man-made caves, called casemates, which served as guard posts for cannons and archers. Today it makes for a scenic stroll to what is known as "the most beautiful balcony in Europe".

The Grund, an abbey and river in front of the casemates in the cliffs.

The Philharmonie

Walking through this building is like taking a step inside a music instrument. Quite fitting since it is the country's official concert hall.
